REVIEW: Contemporary w/ Maritza Mercado-Narcisse

maritza.jpgLevel: Intermediate/Advanced

Where: Dancing Grounds l 3705 St. Claude Ave

Description: This contemporary class is designed to challenge and engage dancers in floor work, basic modern/ballet technique, choreography and fun! The class will include a warm-up on the floor, exercises that strengthen, stretch and align the body, and combinations that widen movement possibilities. Class is taught from a variety of movement perspectives, including traditional dance technique and terminology, yoga, pilates and core fitness.

Review: Maritiza’s class is a groovy one. It’s very laid back and has a casual atmosphere. Although it’s advertised as an intermediate/advanced class I did not find it technically challenging. This class is more feel good. A place to just let go and dance.

Pro: Maritiza is a working artist and often finds new talents in her classes

Con: Her classes can get crowded so you have to get there early to stake out a spot. A lot of new dancers tend to take this class which can be frustrating for the more advanced.
